For a while now, several years actually, gold has taken on renewed popularity in the design world. Brass has edged out silver and chrome, bringing an indulgent vibe reminiscent of the 70′s. Recently we’ve seen the likes of copper and rose gold popping up too.
It’s really pretty marvelous, the impact these beautiful metals make on surfaces and in spaces. I still feel like gold will be my forever go-to.
While in Paris I saw these fantastic chairs at the Porte de Clignancourt flea market on the edge of Montmartre. They begged for a photograph. If only I’d budgeted freight into my travel plans…
I did leave the flea market with a beautiful 70′s pin in the style of LANVIN. And you guessed it! It was tortoise and GOLD!
Below is a photo of the chairs along with some other flea market snapshots. Soon after I spotted the chairs, RUE MAGAZINE featured media event maven, Kelley Moore’s office. There they were, complemented by a gorgeous gilt mirror and mixed with a host of iconic modern pieces. Hers are armchairs. It looks like she may have left these guys behind!
Kelley truly has the mix nailed. Her space is a great example of exuberant and unserious sophistication (is that even possible?).
